SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Jack Crosby has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 27 to April 2. The selection is made by the league office.
Crosby won the Wofford Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Monday and Tuesday. The sophomore from Memphis, Tennessee, cruised to a six-stroke win, shooting a 13-under-par 203 for the two-day tournament. Crosby opened with a bogey-free round of 7-under 65 in Monday’s first round, following that up with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon circuit, which included an eagle on the par-5 17th hole, to finish the first day in a tie for the lead. He closed out the tournament with a 4-under 68 Tuesday, again eagling 17, to pull away for his second tournament win of the 2018-19 season and first of the spring.
Crosby’s efforts helped the Paladins run away with the team title. Furman trailed tournament host Wofford by one stroke after firing a first-round 281 but stormed into the lead with a second-round 280 to take a nine-stroke advantage into the final round. The Paladins closed out their consistent tournament with a 10-under 278 to roll to a 27-stroke win over runner-up Austin Peay. Furman was the only team under par for the tournament, finishing 25 strokes under.
The Paladins have a quick turnaround, closing their regular season at the Clemson Invitational at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Sunset, South Carolina, on April 5-7.
Also nominated: Ryan Marter (Wofford).
