HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Mercer senior Stanton Schorr finished third with a seven-under par 281 (72-73-66-70) at the PGA Mackenzie Tour Canada Qualifying Tournament on March 5-8.
With the strong performance, Schorr – who played as an eligible amateur in the tournament – earned full-exempt status through the first half of the Mackenzie Tour season later this summer following graduation at Mercer.
"This week was just a lot of fun for me to be a part of," Schorr said. "It's a big boost of confidence and it is relieving to have a bit of security coming out of school later this spring when I go pro. I'll have a place to start this summer as a pro, which is what everyone looks for.
"I just competed and beat a lot of professionals that have been doing this for a while, so I know I can compete with anyone moving forward."
Schorr left the course immediately after finishing play to join the Bears in Tampa, Fla., to prepare for the USF Invitational, which will be held on Monday and Tuesday. Schorr finished three strokes behind the qualifying tournament winner, John Coultas, and was the top amateur finisher at the tournament.
