SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Central Michigan’s Jocelyn Lemay and Dom Hamman have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Feb. 26- March 4.
A senior midfielder from Peterborough, Ontario, Lemay was instrumental in Central Michigan’s overtime win against Cincinnati on Friday, totaling three goals, three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Her first goal came early on the in the game, giving the Chippewas an early 2-0 lead. The seniors second goal came after the Bears rallied for four straight to tie the game, giving Central Michigan the 5-4 lead. In overtime, Lemay scored her third goal of the day on a free position attempt to send the Chippewas to victory. Her three goals on the day also gave her her first hat trick of the season.
Hamman, a native of Walworth, New York, was named the defensive player of the week for her efforts in the Chippewas’ overtime upset victory. She recorded 16 saves, one shy of her own program single-game record, against 37 shots on goal. Six of her 16 saves came in the first 15 minutes, helping Central Michigan to build a 4-0 lead and giving the Chippewas a shot to win the game in overtime. She made save 30 seconds to give the ball back to the Chippewas which eventually led to Lemay’s game winning goal. Hamman also recorded two ground balls and one caused turnover.
The Chippewas are back in action Tuesday night as they travel to San Diego, California, to take on San Diego State in a 6 p.m. match up before traveling to Davis, California, to play UC Davis on Friday.
