SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Central Michigan’s Anna Schoonover and Hope Murray have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition March 19 – 25.
A senior attacker from Eagan, Minnesota, Schoonover scored seven goals in Central Michgian’s game against Marquette on Saturday, the first-ever victory over the Golden Eagles for the Chippewas. Her seven goals set the program record for goals in a game and her nine shots all made it on goal.
Schoonover currently leads the Chippewas in draw controls (35), free-position goals (4) and shots (47).
Murray, a goalkeeper from West Linn, Oregon, recorded 17 saves, one shy of her own record, in the Chippewas 16-7 win over the Golden Eagles. The junior held Marquette to only seven goals despite the Golden Eagles coming into the game averaging 15 goals per game. She also collected four ground balls on the win.
Murray currently leads the SoCon in goals against average (11.07) and save percentage (.598) among goalkeepers with 150-plus minutes of time in goal.
The Chippewas turn their attention to Friday as they will travel to Kennesaw State before traveling to Macon, Georgia, for the first conference matchup of the season against the Mercer Bears.
