SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina freshman Louis Theys has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 13-19. The selection is made by the league office.

The rookie from Villers-Perwin, Belgium, recorded a career-best 54-hole score of 6-under-par 207 at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday and Saturday to tie for fourth in the 112-man, 18-team field. Theys opened his tournament with a 1-under 70 in the first round before adding a career-low 3-under 68 in the second to wrap the first day of action tied for 11th. He closed with a 2-under 69 Saturday to jump seven spots into a tie for fourth, two strokes back of the co-medalists.

Western Carolina is back on the course April 1-2 at the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Also nominated: Austin Carter (ETSU), Jonathan Brightwell (UNCG) and Aaron Walker (Samford).
