SoCon names women's lacrosse players of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Detroit Mercy’s Lexie Kinmond and Central Michigan’s Kelly Spehar have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Feb. 19-25.

A senior attacker from Peterborough, Ontario, Kinmond totaled four goals and five assists in eight shots on goal in a pair of games for the Titans this past week. She also collected eight groundballs while causing three turnovers and winning two draw controls. Kinmond currently ranks second in the league in assists per game (2.00), first in points per game (4.00) and is tied for first in shots per game (6.00) with Furman’s Grace Pollak.

Spehar, a native of Grand Rapid, Michigan, was named the defensive player of the week for her efforts in the Chippewas’ 16-6 victory over Butler. Spehar held the Bulldogs top scorer in check, limiting her to just four shots throughout the game. The senior also caused two second-half turnovers, picked up two groundballs and caused two turnovers.

The Titans travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a match-up with Duquesne on Sunday, March 3 while the Chippewas’ stay at home to face Cincinnati on Friday, March 1.
