PALM DESERT, Calif. – Western Carolina climbed one spot in the team standings on Saturday as four of the Catamount scoring five improved upon their opening-round scores at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. WCU is led by freshman Louis Theys in a tie for 52nd overall, shooting one stroke better in the second round with a 3-over-par 75 and a two-round score of 151.

Paired with golfers from Southern Utah and two groups of five individuals, WCU tees off on hole No. 10 beginning at 8:40 a.m. PT / 11:40 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available online at GolfStat.com.

Sophomore Zach Caudill and senior George Whitbread made the most improvement in day two as Caudill was five strokes better with a second-round 4-over-par 76 after shooting 81 on Friday, while Whitbread chopped 11 strokes off his score on Saturday, matching for the team’s best second-round score of 3-over-par 75 after shooting 86 in the first round of the spring. Caudill sits in a tie for 92nd overall while Whitbread is tied for 107th in the individual field.

Rounding out WCU’s scoring five are freshmen Túmi Kuld in a tie for 114th with consecutive rounds of 82 (164) while sophomore Michael Coe is in 120th overall at 171 (86-85).

No. 18 Texas Tech (290-282 = 572) holds a two-stroke lead over second-place Boise State (293-281 = 574), which jumped two spots in the pecking order on Saturday. TCU (291-284 = 575) sits third followed by a two-way tie between No. 47 Colorado State (290-298 = 588) and No. 39 Kansas (297-291 = 588).

Skylar Eubank of Boise State leads the 120-golfer field by three strokes over a three-way tie for the runner-up spot. Eubank posted consecutive rounds of 4-under-par 68 for a two-day score of 136.

The final round tees off at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET on both the front and back nines.
