SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Pierre Viallaneix has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1. The selection is made by the league office.

Playing in just his second collegiate tournament, Viallaneix shot a 6-under-par 207 to tie for 13th at the J.T. Poston Invitational at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire, North Carolina. The freshman from Apopka, Florida, opened with a 4-under-par 67 in Monday’s first round before firing an even-par 71 in round two. Viallaneix wrapped up his tournament with a 2-under 69 in Tuesday’s final round.

Viallaneix helped the Catamounts to a ninth-place finish in their own tournament, newly renamed for the program’s most famous alum, who was a two-time SoCon medalist and the league’s player of the year in 2014. Poston recently earned his first PGA TOUR victory, winning the 2019 Wyndham Championship.

The J.T. Poston Invitational was composed of 87 players and 14 teams.

Western Carolina is back at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at Ridgepoint Country Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Oct. 14-15.
