SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The ETSU men’s golf team wrapped up first-round play at the Louisville Cardinal Challenge on Friday afternoon from the University of Louisville Golf Club. Sophomore Shiso Go and redshirt junior Trevor Hulbert both fired a 2-under-par 69.

Go, who is coming off his fifth straight top-20 finish at last weekend’s Rod Myers Invitational, used a solid finish to move up the leaderboard. The Buccaneer sophomore was even-par after making the turn; however, Go carded two birdies and seven pars over his final nine holes to move into a tie for 16th.

Likewise, Hulbert – playing as an individual – also caught fire after turn as he birdied three of his first five holes to get to 2-under for the round. Hulbert started on the back nine and bogeyed the par-5, 508-yard No. 17; however, he started his birdie run on the par-4, 295-yard No. 2, while also adding back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4 and 5 to record the strong finish.

Duke’s Alex Smalley holds the individual lead after round one as he fired a 10-under-par 61, while a group of five golfers are tied for second at 7-under 64.

The Blue Devils also hold the team lead as Duke carded a 27-under-par 257 on Friday en route to grabbing an 11-shot lead over Wake Forest and host Louisville. South Florida and Western Kentucky round out the top five as they are tied for fourth at 7-under-par 277.

ETSU posted a 6-over-par 290 in the opening round and sits in 15th.

Sophomore Jack Rhea and senior Geuntae Kim both registered a 1-over 72 and are tied for 47th.

Second-round play gets underway Saturday morning at 9. The Bucs, who are paired with Louisiana Tech, Charlotte and Louisiana, tee off at 10:12 a.m. from No. 10.
