SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Detroit Mercy’s Jessica Snyder and Allison McDonough have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition April 24-30.
A native of Northville, Michigan, Snyder scored four goals in Detroit Mercy’s 17-9 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday. The senior attacker was a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, tying a season-high for goals scored, helping the Titans upend the Chippewas to claim the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SoCon Championship. Snyder scored a pair of goals in the first half before adding two more in the second as Detroit Mercy took a commanding 13-5 lead. Snyder, who scored a career-high 23 goals this season, tallied eight goals in the last two games.
McDonough played a key role in the Titans clinching a share of the regular-season title, as the goalkeeper registered 12 saves in the 17-9 victory on Saturday. The Vero Beach, Florida, native totaled six saves in the first half and six in the second half as Detroit Mercy became the only SoCon team to defeat Central Michigan this season. It was the junior’s sixth game with 12 or more saves and 11th game with nine or more saves. McDonough leads the conference in ground balls per game (2.82), while ranking third in save percentage among starters with seven or more games played (.453).
The inaugural SoCon Women’s Lacrosse Championship begins Thursday, May 3, when No. 1 Detroit Mercy faces No. 4 Mercer at 5 p.m. in Macon, Georgia.
