SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Central Michigan’s Anna Schoonover and Furman’s Courtney Baker have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition March 27 to April 2.

Schoonover tallied 10 points with seven goals and three assists in two games for Central Michigan last week. In the first-ever SoCon match on Thursday, the Eagan, Minnesota, native scored four goals while registering two assists and five draw controls as the Chippewas edged out the Bears 15-13. The junior attacker would follow up that performance by scoring three goals and dishing out one assist against Kennesaw State on Saturday. Schoonover also added four draw controls and two ground balls in the 15-13 loss. The contests against Mercer and Kennesaw State were designated as “Play for Patrick” contests, honoring Schoonover’s brother, who passed away due to an undetected heart defect, by raising money for heart screenings. Schoonover is tied for second in the SoCon with game-winning goals (two), while ranking second on the team in points (27) and draw controls (36).

Baker earned her first win of the season on Saturday, playing the entire second half in goal for Furman. The junior from Queenstown, Maryland, made five saves, allowing just three goals as the Paladins edged out the Stetson 15-14. Against Jacksonville on Thursday, Baker played just under 40 minutes in net, totaling 10 saves. Baker, who has appeared in eight games this season, is second in the SoCon in save percentage (.508) and goals against average (8.95). Baker is the first Paladin to win defensive player of the week honors.

Central Michigan will host Howard on Friday at 3:30 p.m., while Furman travels to Mercer for its first-ever SoCon match at 5 p.m.
