SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Detroit Mercy’s Kaitlyn Wandelt and Central Michigan’s Jocelyne Lemay have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition April 10-16.
Wandelt led Detroit Mercy to a pair of SoCon victories over the weekend, totaling 13 goals on just 17 shots. In Friday’s 22-7 win at Wofford, the Sayville, New York, native scored seven goals on just nine shots, tying her career-high for goals in a game. The redshirt sophomore would continue to roll on Sunday, adding six goals as the Titans edged out Furman 16-13. Wandelt also picked up six ground balls, caused three turnovers and won five draw controls in the two games. Wandelt currently leads the SoCon in goals (49), points (65) and shots per game (7.07).
Helping Central Michigan keep its perfect SoCon record, Jocelyne Lemay won eight draw controls, picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers as the Chippewas defeated Furman and Wofford on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Against Furman, the junior was a key part of a come-from-behind win, causing three turnovers while recording four draw controls and four ground balls, scoring a goal late in the game to help seal the 13-10 victory. The Peterborough, Ontario, native registered her first career hat trick in a weather-shortened 16-4 win over the Terriers. Lemay currently ranks fifth in the SoCon in draw controls (52), sixth in goals (29) and leads the league in game-winning goals with three.
Detroit Mercy travels to Coastal Carolina on Thursday, facing the Chanticleers at 4 p.m. Central Michigan will remain on the road, facing Old Dominion on Friday at 3 p.m.
