FARMVILLE, Va. – Western Carolina senior Jackson Bishop leads the 70-golfer field after 36 of the scheduled 54 holes at the 2018 Manor Intercollegiate hosted by Longwood at the par-72, 7,246-yard The Manor Golf Club.
Tied for fourth after an opening-round score of 1-over-par 73, Bishop fired the only round in the 60s with a season-low 4-under round of 68 in the second round to move to the top of the scoreboard. The Gainesville, Ga., native posted a tournament-best 12 birdies on Friday and leads in par-5 scoring at 4.38 (-5).
Classmate Dylan MacQueen closed the first round tied with Bishop in fourth but slipped into a sixth-place tie in the second round with a score of 147 (73-74). Senior Bright Julamool led WCU after the first round in third-place overall with a score of even-par 72 but closed the first day of competition in a tie for 11th after shooting 5-over 77 in the second round.
All told, MacQueen posted 27 pars over his first 36 holes, tied for second in the field, while Julamool carded 23 combined pars.
Rounding out WCU’s scoring five are junior George Whitbread and freshman Michael Coe in a tie for 40th overall at 160, both slipping five spots after matching opening-round scores of 78 followed by a pair of 82s in the second.
Playing unattached as an individual, WCU freshman Chandler Metz is tied for 57th overall with a two-round score of 166 (84-82).
Bishop’s closest competitor is three strokes in arrears as Longwood’s Brandon Weaver posted an even-par score of 144 (70-74) on Friday, while North Carolina Central golfer Zane Lewis is third at 145.
Tournament-host Longwood leads the 13-team field, carrying a four-stroke lead over second-place Delaware into Saturday’s final round. The Lancers posted rounds of 293 and 298 for a two-round score of 591 while the Blue Hens sit in the runner-up spot with a score of 595 (293-302). Western Carolina is third at 597, followed by IUPUI (610) and Sacred Heart rounding out the top five at 611.
The final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday.
