SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Detroit Mercy midfielder Kaitlyn Wandelt and Central Michigan midfielder Logan Halvorson have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition March 13-19.
Wandelt scored 11 goals and had three assists in two games for the Titans last week. Against Saint Francis (Pa.), the redshirt sophomore scored five goals and added two assists as Detroit Mercy cruised to a 17-7 win on Thursday. On Saturday, the Sayville, New York, native netted six goals and added one assist as the Titans fell 19-15 to Duquesne. Wandelt, the reigning offensive player of the month, also totaled 12 draw controls and two ground balls in the two games for the Titans.
Halvorson helped lead Central Michigan to a pair of wins over Duquesne and Saint Francis (Pa.) last week. Against Duquesne on Thursday, the Lakeville, Minnesota, native picked up one ground ball and forced one turnover as the Central Michigan defense yielded just one goal in the final 45 minutes, coasting to a 15-8 victory. Against Saint Francis on Saturday, the junior picked up six ground balls, forced two turnovers and scored one goal as the Chippewas downed the Red Flash 17-12.
Detroit Mercy will travel to Michigan on Sunday to face the Wolverines at 1 p.m., while Central Michigan has a weekend off, returning to the field on March 29 top open up conference play against Mercer.
