TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Tied for 10th after the opening round, the Western Carolina men’s golf team slipped into 11th overall at the highly competitive 42nd annual Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State University at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Country Club. WCU posted rounds of 296 and 300 for a 36-hole score of 596, just two strokes outside of 10th place overall.
Paired with golfers from ninth-place Southern Illinois and 10th-place Nicholls State, WCU’s scoring five will tee off on the back nine on Sunday beginning at 8:28 a.m. Live scoring of the final round is available online through GolfStatResults.com.
Catamount seniors Jackson Bishop and Dylan MacQueen pace the team, sitting in ties for 33rd and 40th, respectively. Bishop carded WCU’s only round under par with a 1-under 71 in the first round before shooting 4-over 76 for a two-round total of 147 to sit in a tie for 33rd overall. Bishop posted a team-best eight birdies on Saturday and sits in a tie for second in par-3 scoring at 1-under (2.88). MacQueen posted rounds of even-par 72 and a matching 4-over 76 to sit in a tie for 40th, a stroke in arrears at 148.
Junior George Whitbread is tied for 44th overall with rounds of 76 and 73 for a total of 149, with freshmen Michael Coe (52nd-t, 152) and Zach Caudill (72nd-t, 160) rounding out WCU’s scoring five. Coe was WCU’s best on the par-5 layouts, averaging 3-under (4.63).
With two individuals inside the top three, the tournament-host 20th-ranked FSU Seminoles lead the 14-team field, opening up an eight-stroke lead over second-place Jacksonville, 557-to-565. James Madison (566) is just a stroke out of the runner-up position in third, while Arkansas State (572) and Cincinnati (574) round out the top five.
Florida State’s Jamie Li shot 7-under-par 137 to lead the 75-golfer field, carrying a one-stroke lead over teammate John Pak and Albert Badosa-Soler of Nicholls State, who are tied for the runner-up spot at 6-under-par 138.
The final round is set for Sunday with tee times off both the front and back nine beginning at 8 a.m.
