SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Abby Shields and Mercer’s Audrey Robertson have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Feb. 13-19.
A junior attacker from Vero Beach, Florida, Shields totaled two goals and six assists in a pair of games for the Paladins last week. Shields served as a constant threat against Presbyterian on Wednesday, scoring two goals while dishing out five assists. Shields, who had a shots-on-goal percentage of .800, added an assist against Davidson on Sunday.
Robertson, a native of Stuart, Florida, was named the defensive player of the week for her efforts against Fresno State and California. In addition to causing four turnovers and picking up a game-high five ground balls against the Bulldogs, the junior scored a goal on her only shot of the game against the Bears, adding a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
After their trip out west, the Bears won’t return to the field until March 2 when they face Gardner-Webb. Furman, meanwhile, travels to Vanderbilt on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tilt.
