Mercer sixth at Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Mercer men's golf team is in sixth place with an 18-over-par 594 after 36 holes of play at the Pinetree Intercollegiate on Monday at the Pinetree Country Club.

Mercer shot an even-par 288 in the second round to overcome its first-round 306. Four of the six Bears in the tournament gained ground in the individual standings following the improved second-round performances.

The Bears are six shots off fifth-place Jacksonville State (+12) heading into the third and final round of play. Mercer's slow start resulted in a tie for ninth through 18 holes, but the turnaround effort pushed Mercer into sixth place among the 11-team field.

Three Bears – Nolan Miller (t-16th), Spencer Ball (t-25th) and Martin Plukka (t-25th) – are inside the top 25 individually after each shot a second-round 71 (-1) to lead the turnaround. A scoring issue at the end of the second round resulted in a DQ of Tyler Copp's second-round score.

Mercer’s third round begins with Kiko Rosete and Brennan Bogdanovich, both playing as individuals, teeing off at 8 a.m. Tuesday on holes 1 and 10, respectively. Copp follows at 8:10 a.m. off No. 1.
