SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga senior Brooks Thomas has been named this week’s Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 29 to April 4. The selection is made by the league office.

Thomas tied for 11th out of 83 competitors at the Old Waverly Collegiate in West Point, Mississippi, on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a 3-under-par 141 for the tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes by inclement weather. The Chattanooga, Tennessee, native shot a 2-under 70 in the first round and followed that up with a 1-under 71 for his third top-15 finish of the year. Thomas finished two shots ahead of 95th-ranked Ben Wolcott of Ole Miss, who was one of three ranked golfers in the field.

Thomas helped the Mocs to an eighth-place team finish in the 16-team field, which included No. 24 Ole Miss, No. 34 Lipscomb and No. 41 Kennesaw State.

The weekly honor is the first of Thomas’ career and the third for a Chattanooga golfer this season, as teammate Wes Gosselin has been recognized twice.

The Mocs are back in action at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate at Richland Country Club in Nashville, Tennessee, on Monday and Tuesday.

Also nominated: Mateusz Gradecki (ETSU), Stanton Schorr (Mercer) and Walker Simas (Wofford).
