SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG sophomore Bryce Hendrix has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 15-21. The selection is made by the league office.

Hendrix fired a career-low 8-under-par 208 to tie for fifth out of 84 golfers at the Linger Longer Invitational at Reynold Plantation in Eatonton, Georgia, from Sunday to Tuesday.

The second-year Spartan from Greenville, North Carolina, opened his tournament with a career-best 5-under 67 on Sunday and followed that up with a 3-under 69 on Monday. Hendrix closed his tournament with an even-par 72 for his first career top-five finish.

Hendrix’s efforts helped the Spartans tie for sixth in the 15-team field, which featured six top-50 teams as well as SoCon foe Mercer. UNCG finished ahead of No. 43 Kennesaw State, No. 45 Middle Tennessee and No. 37 Michigan. Individually, Hendrix finished ahead of nine of the 12 top-100-ranked golfers in the field.

The weekly award is the first for Hendrix, the 2016 SoCon Freshman of the Year. 

UNCG is back in action at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate at the Irish Creek Golf Club in Kannapolis, North Carolina, on April 8-9.

Also nominated: Trevor Hulbert (ETSU) and Justin Connelly (Mercer).
