TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three Catamounts posted opening-round scores of 1-over-par 73 on Friday as Western Carolina sits in 13th overall despite a first-round team score of 5-over 293 at the 2017 Seminole Intercollegiate. WCU is just seven strokes outside of the top 10 after 18 of the scheduled 72 holes at the par-72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Course.

WCU juniors Jackson Bishop and Dylan MacQueen and sophomore Mark David Johnson each carded first-round scores of 73 to lead the Catamounts.

Rounding out WCU’s scoring five are junior Bright Julamool, one stroke back after a first-round 2-over-par 74 in a tie for 58th overall, and sophomore Lawson King in a tie for 77th at 7-over-par 79. Both Julamool and King carded four birdies in Friday’s first round.

Penn State carded a team score of 15-under par, 273, to lead the 14-team field by a stroke over second-place – and tournament host – Florida State (274). Georgia Tech is three strokes off the pace in third at 276, with West Virginia (277) and Jacksonville (281) rounding out the top five.

Three individuals sit tied atop the tournament leaderboard after shooting matching scores of 6-under-par 66 on Friday. Georgia Tech’s Luke Schniederjans, Cole Miller from Penn State and Winthrop’s Zach Seabolt share the top spot entering Saturday’s second round.

The second round gets underway on Saturday with set tee-times starting at 8:30 a.m. Paired with golfers from Georgia Mason and Illinois State, WCU’s scoring five tees off beginning at 9:47 a.m. on the back nine.
