SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU senior Adrian Meronk has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 13-19. The award is selected by the league office and is the final one of the 2016 season.
Meronk finished second out of 93 competitors at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate over the weekend, shooting a 13-under-par 200 at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. The 17-team field featured three teams ranked in the top 50 nationally and four individuals ranked in the top 30. ETSU finished fourth.
The Wroclaw, Poland, native, who was recently named to the European Palmer Cup team for the second straight year, earned runner-up honors for the second consecutive week. Meronk opened his tournament with a 2-under 69 before adding a 5-under 66 to match his collegiate low Saturday to sit second after two rounds. Meronk went one stroke better in Sunday’s final round, setting a new career low with a 6-under 65 to lock up his fourth top-three finish in his last five tournaments.
Meronk played 51 of his 54 holes at par or better, notching 14 birdies and one eagle.
Meronk also earned weekly SoCon honors on March 16 and 23, making him just the sixth player in league history to claim the honor three times in a season since the SoCon began recognizing players of the week in 2001. Wofford’s Andrew Novak became the fifth just last week.
The honor is the fourth of Meronk’s career, only two years of which have been spent in the SoCon. He is one of just five players in SoCon history to earn the honor at least four times.
ETSU and the rest of the league return to action at the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship at Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, N.C. The three-day tournament begins Sunday. The Bucs are the defending champions after downing UNCG in a playoff at the 2015 event.
