SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman senior Preston Cole has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 2-8. The selection is made by the league office.

Cole shot a 4-under 206 to finish fourth at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The Greer, S.C., native finished ahead of five of the six top-100 golfers in the 90-man field. As a team, Furman finished eighth out of 18 teams, five of which were ranked in the top 50 in Division I.

Cole opened with a career-best round of 4-under 66 before turning in a 1-over 71 in round two Monday and finishing with a 1-under 69 on Tuesday. The fourth-place finish tied his career best.

Furman is back in action at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga., on March 14.

Also nominated: Jake McGlone (UNCG) and Wes Gosselin (Chattanooga).
