OPELIKA, Ala. – UNCG junior men’s golfer Jake McGlone sits in a tie for second place overall to lead the Spartans after day one of the Tiger Invitational held at the Grand National Lake Course hosted by Auburn. The Spartans will tee off in round two Monday with tee times from 7:45-8:21 a.m. (CT) from hold No. 10. Live scoring is available at www.golfstatresults.com.

The Spartans as a team are tied for 10th overall after posting a 12-over-par 300 score. Fifth-ranked Auburn leads the event after the first of three rounds with a 3-under par 285. Matt Gilchrest of Auburn holds the individual lead with a 4-under par 68 heading into round two.

McGlone is two shots out of the lead after posting a 2-under par 70 in round one. He carded five birdies to go along with three bogeys and 10 par scores. He was 5-under through 12 holes.

Freshman Bryce Hendrix and senior Taylor Coalson are tied for 47th overall at 4-over 76. Hendrix tallied two birdies and 11 par scores, including ending the round with eight straight pars. Coalson added two birdies to the last five holes to reach the 76 score.

Sophomore Josh Stockwell is tied for 68th overall with a 6-over 78 as he posted three birdies on the day. Senior Luke Haithcock rounded out the lineup with a 7-over 79 score to sit in a tie for 75th overall.

Joining the Spartans in the 18-team field include No. 5 Auburn (two teams), No. 25 Kentucky, Troy, Kennesaw State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, VCU, Georgia State, UNCW, Southeastern Louisiana, Kansas State, South Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Jacksonville State and Tulsa.
