SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford junior Andrew Novak has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 23-29. The award is selected by the league office.

Novak finished second out of 115 players at the Furman Intercollegiate, firing a 10-under-par 206 over 54 holes, three strokes out of first place and two shots ahead of the only top-100 player in the field. He recorded 10 birdies and three eagles on the weekend.

The Mt. Pleasant, S.C., native opened with a 5-under 67 on Friday to hold the individual lead after the first round. He slipped into a tie for third despite a 2-under 70 on Saturday but moved into sole possession of second with Sunday’s 3-under 69. His 10-under total was the second-best career mark in relation to par in his collegiate career.

With his seventh and eighth rounds in the 60s this academic year, Novak lowered his SoCon-best stroke average to 70.50 on the season. The top-five finish was the fifth of his junior campaign.

The weekly award was his second of the season.

Novak helped Wofford to a seventh-place finish in the 19-team field, which included five other SoCon teams in Furman, Mercer, Samford, Chattanooga and Western Carolina.

The Terriers are back in action April 3-5 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C.

Also nominated: Wehman Hopke (Furman), Zach Hughes (Samford), Wes Gosselin (Chattanooga) and Jackson Bishop (Western Carolina).
