SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford junior Andrew Novak has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Feb. 8-23. The selection is made by the league office.
Novak was historically good at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Monday and Tuesday, shooting a 13-under-par 203 for his first collegiate win. He shattered the school record for a tournament score in relation to par, dropping three strokes off the previous mark, which had stood since 2006.
The Mt. Pleasant, S.C., native opened with a 2-under 70 and backed that up with a 5-under 67 on Monday before locking up the win with a 6-under 66 on Tuesday, matching his career low round and setting a new Wexford Plantation course record. Novak did not record a bogey through his final 36 holes, carding 11 birdies over that span.
Novak finished two strokes ahead of No. 50 Johnson Holliday of USC Aiken, who was one of six top-100 players in the 90-golfer field.
Wofford returns to the course at the Legacy Intercollegiate in Longwood, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday.
Also nominated: Adrian Meronk (ETSU), Zach Hughes (Samford), Lake Johnson (Chattanooga) and Bradley Durand (Western Carolina).
