Western Carolina 10th at Badger Invitational
MADISON, Wis. – Western Carolina posted a team round of 305 on Monday, slipping one spot in the standings to sit 10th overall with a 36-hole score of 606 at the 2015 Badger Invitational at the par-72, 7,259-yard University Ridge Golf Course. Sophomore Jackson Bishop continues to pace the Catamounts in a tie for 20th with one round remaining.
The tournament’s final round is scheduled for Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. WCU’s scoring five will tee off on the back nine between holes Nos. 10 and 13, paired with golfers from Illinois State and Texas Rio Grande Valley. Bishop followed his 1-over round of 73 on Sunday with a 4-over-par 76 on Monday for a two-day score of 149. Senior Taylor Durand improved his opening-round score by a single stroke, shooting 3-over-par 75 on Monday to move into a tie for 31st at 151.
WCU’s scoring five is rounded out by a trio of freshmen. Alex Lee is tied for 48th overall after shooting 80 on Monday for a two-day score of 154, carding a pair of birdies in the round. His classmate Mark David Johnson fired the team-low round for the day with a 2-over-par 74 to advance into a tie for 62nd (157), while Bradley Durand shot 82 for an event score of 160.
Second-place Kansas managed to cut into the advantage of the opening-round leader Miami (Ohio), trimming the once five-stroke lead down to just one with 18 holes to play. The Jayhawks shot 286 for a two-day score of 569, just a stroke in arrears of the RedHawks at 568 following a second-round score of 290. Ball State (585) sits third with tournament host Wisconsin making a big jump, advancing from 10th into fourth overall with a second-round score of 294 and a two-day tally of 596. USC Upstate (597) rounds out the top five teams.
Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) will take a three-stroke lead into Tuesday’s final round, pacing Chase Hanna from Kansas, 136-139. Greg Conrad of Miami (Ohio), who was tied for the first-round lead, is tied for third with Wisconsin individual Jordan Hahn, four strokes off the pace at 140.
