UNCG 11th at Rod Myers Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – UNCG men’s golf junior Jake McGlone fired a career-low 5-under-par 67 in round one and sits in fifth place overall after 36 holes to lead the Spartans in day one of the Rod Myers Invitational at the Duke University Golf Club. The Spartans sit in 11th place overall in the team standings.

The third and final round will tee off Sunday with the Spartans set for tee times from hole No. 10 between 8:39-9:15 a.m. with live scoring available via www.golfstatresults.com.

McGlone sits at 2-under-par 142 (67-75) after two rounds. He began round one by going even par over the first nine holes before turning it on over the back nine. He carded five birdies on holes Nos. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 to go 5-under in nine holes. He followed that up with a 3-over par 75 in round two.

The Spartans as a team are in 11th place overall with an 18-over-par 594 with a lineup that includes three true freshmen. UNCG began play with a 293 score in round one before dropping to a 301 score in round two. Wake Forest leads the event at 9-under par 567 (288-279) while tournament host Duke is one shot back at 8-under 568 (286-282). Wake Forest’s Will Zalatons holds a commanding individual lead at 12-under-par 132 with back-to-back rounds of 6-under-par 66.

Freshman Bryce Hendrix made his collegiate debut and sits in a tie for 43rd overall with a 6-over-par 150. Hendrix began play with a 1-over-par 73 in round one as he recorded three birdies, four bogeys and 11 par scores in the opening round of collegiate play. He followed that up with a 5-over-par 77.

Senior Taylor Coalson rebounded from a tough opening round and sits in a tie for 50th overall with a 7-over-par 151. Coalson began the year with a 6-over-par 78 but followed that up with a 1-over-par 73 in round two. He notched two birdies, three bogeys and 13 par scores in his second round of the day.

Freshman James Mishoe sits in a tie for 59th overall with a 9-over-par 153 as he carded rounds of 75 and 79. Classmate Mark Johnston is in 73rd place overall and rebounded from a tough first round to card a 4-over-par 76 in round two.

Joining the Spartans in the field include host Duke, Davidson, East Carolina, Kansas, Kansas State, Liberty, Loyola, Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tulsa, UNCW and Wake Forest.

Chattanooga 13th at Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. – Chattanooga’s men’s golf team is in 13th place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club after two rounds of play.

Junior Wes Gosselin leads the Mocs at 145. His +1 total is tied for 11th, one shot out of the top 10. His second-round 74 paced a 306 team effort. Brooks Thomas and Stuart Thomas each turned in 76s, while Kory Webb carded 80. Lake Johnson‘s 82 was the drop score.

Chattanooga remains two shots ahead of North Florida and five behind Ole Miss. Alabama is in the lead at 578 with Auburn three behind in second and Georgia Tech in third at 582. Clemson’s Stephen Behr and Alabama’s Davis Riley are tied for first at -5.

The Mocs are paired with UNF and Dalton State again in Sunday’s final round. Stuart Thomas (8:22) is off first for UTC on the 10th tee. Johnson (8:33), Webb (8:44), Brooks Thomas (8:55) and Gosselin (9:06) are right behind. Admission is free with the Farm located about 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga.
