Western Carolina’s Poston drops to 95th at NCAA Championships
BRADENTON, Fla. – With play suspended five holes short of completion, Western Carolina senior J.T. Poston has dropped into a tie for 95th place overall at the 2015 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,483-yard Concession Golf Club.
Third-round play was suspended at approximately 6:28 p.m. due to lightning. Competitors will resume play in the 54-hole portion of the tournament beginning at 7 a.m. with any team or individual ties for the top 15 teams and nine individuals determined before the fourth round, which will not begin before 10 a.m.
Opening with four pars sandwiched around a birdie through the first five holes, Poston quickly moved to 1-under-par in Sunday’s third round. However, WCU’s all-time career scoring average leader ran into trouble in the middle third of the round.
A bogey on the par-3 sixth was the first of three holes over par that included a rare triple-bogey on the par-5 seventh and a double-bogey on No. 8 to relegate him to 5-over-par for the round.
Making the turn at 5-over, a second double-bogey on the par-4 10th was followed with consecutive bogeys on holes Nos. 12 and 13 to leave the Hickory, N.C., product at 9-over for the round before play was halted.
Bryson Dechambeau of SMU moved to the top of the individual leaderboard at 7-under-par 209, with UAB’s Paul Dunne in the runner-up spot one stroke off the pace at 210 with both players through 54 holes.
