UNCG's Dixon Earns Academic All-District Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior men’s golfer Roy Dixon has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District III At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Dixon will now advance and be eligible for Academic All-America honors against other first-team selections across the eight districts nationwide. This marks the second straight season that Dixon has earned the prestigious honor.

Dixon owns a 3.97 grade point average in finance and graduated earlier this month as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He will continue his studies in the fall at the University of North Carolina Law School. He is a three-time Academic All-SoCon and SoCon Honor Roll selection and will qualify for both for a fourth time when those awards are announced in June.

Dixon was named first-team All-Southern Conference for the second straight year after posting a 72.90 stroke average on the season. He is just the sixth UNCG golfer in program history to earn all-conference accolades in back-to-back seasons. He boasted seven top-20 finishes on the year, including a fifth-place showing at the 2015 SoCon Championship.

Eligible men’s sports in the at-large program include: golf, fencing, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. District III includes all Division I schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must be in their second year at the institution, have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and be a starter or important reserve that has played at least 50 percent of the team’s games.
