UNCG finishes 11th at Irish Creek
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team closed out the regular-season schedule this weekend at The Club at Irish Creek, finishing 11th overall in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by Davidson. The Spartans will head to the 2015 Southern Conference Championships next weekend on Pinehurst No. 9 beginning Sunday and running through Tuesday, April 21.
The No. 75 Spartans finished in 11th overall with a 28-over-par 880 score as they posted rounds of 290, 294 and 296. No. 17 South Florida came from behind to claim the team title with a 1-over-par 853 (286-282-285), edging out No. 24 North Florida by one stroke at 2-over-par 854 (284-277-293). There was a three-way tie on the individual side with Taylor Hancock of UNF, Rigel Fernandes of USF and Frederick Nilehn of Kennesaw State posting 5-under 208 scores.
Senior Roy Dixon was the Spartans’ top finisher in a tie for 28th overall. Dixon posted a score of 5-over-par 218 (72-74-72) on the par-71 course. Junior Taylor Coalson was just behind in a tie for 33rd overall at 6-over-par 219 (70-73-76).
Freshman Josh Stockwell finished tied for 41st overall as he tallied a 9-over-par 222. Stockwell opened with back-to-back rounds of 2-over-par 73 before carding a 76 in the final round Sunday.
Junior Luke Haithcock notched a 60th-place showing with a 13-over-par 226 (75-78-73), while sophomore Jake McGlone placed in a tie for 65th at 14-over-par 227 (78-74-75).
