Furman?s Howell Named SoCon Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman sophomore Bryce Howell has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 4-10. The selection is made by the league office.

Howell tied for fourth out of 90 golfers at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., shooting a 6-under-par 204 (68.0 stroke average) over three rounds on the par-70 Palmetto Golf Club course.

Howell shot a 2-under 68 in Monday’s opening round and followed that up with an even-par 70 in the afternoon round to sit in a tie for 15th place after the first day of action. The Blythewood, S.C., native followed that up with a 4-under 66 on Tuesday, turning in the tournament’s best mark of the day to rocket up the leaderboard into a tie for fourth.

The 18-team field featured fellow SoCon schools Western Carolina and Wofford, as well as six ranked teams. Furman finished 12th. There were 17 ranked individuals in the field.

Furman returns to action at the Southern Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga., on March 16.

Also nominated: Trey Rule (Mercer), Taylor Coalson (UNCG), Robert Adams (Samford), J.T. Poston (Western Carolina) and Andrew Novak (Wofford).
