Chattanooga tied for third at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is tied for third with 18 holes to go at the Wolfpack Fall Open. The Mocs’ 8-over-par 292 matched host NC State on Monday on Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Wes Gosselin led the way with an even-par 71, tying for fifth. Andrew Weathers’ 73 ties him in 15th, while Stuart Thomas and Lake Johnson are tied for 28th, another shot back with 74s. Kory Webb also shot 74 playing as an individual, while Brooks Thomas had the drop score with an 80.
West Virginia (289) holds a one-stroke lead over Campbell (290). The Mocs and Wolfpack are three behind, while UNCG is fifth at 293.
Gosselin is three off the pace set by the duo of Robin Petersson (Augusta) and Max Sear (West Virginia). Tyler Lail (Western Carolina) is in third at 69, while Avery Schneider (West Virginia) sits in fourth at 70.
Chattanooga is paired with the Spartans and Lipscomb in Tuesday’s final round. The trio leads off No. 1 at 8:45 a.m. Brooks Thomas is up first followed by Johnson (8:54), Stuart Thomas (9:03), Weathers (9:12) and Gosselin (9:21) follow.
UNCG fifth at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
RALEIGH, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team sits just four strokes out of the top spot in fifth place overall after day one of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate Monday at the Lonnie Poole Golf Club. The Spartans had all five golfers place in the top 28 in the first round Monday of the two-day, 36-hole, weather-shortened event.
The Spartans are alone in fifth place after posting a 9-over-par 293, tied for their third-lowest round of the young season.
Freshman James Mishoe led the way in round one as he posted a 1-over-par 72. Mishoe tallied just two bogeys to go along with one birdie and 15 par scores on his solid round. Senior Taylor Coalson, who has placed in the top 10 in this event the last two years, sits in a tie for 15th place overall. Coalson notched a 2-over-par 73 in round one as he recorded five birdies on the day.
Junior Jake McGlone continued his strong start to the year as he notched a 3-over-par 74 to sit in a tie for 28th place overall. Sophomore Josh Stockwell and freshman Bryce Hendrix is also tied for 28th place overall as the recorded 3-over-par 74 scores Monday. Hendrix tallied three birdies on his round to highlight the trio.
UNCG was a late addition to the field after its original tournament this weekend, the Tar Heel Invitational, was canceled due to weather.
Wofford eighth at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior Jeremy Grab carded a 1-over-par 72 to highlight day one for the Wofford men’s golf team at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. The tournament, hosted by NC State, teed off Monday morning at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
The Terriers sit in eighth on the team leaderboard. Wofford combined for a 13-over-par 297 and shares its position with Augusta. West Virginia leads the tournament after shooting a 5-over 289. Eleven teams are within 10 shots of the lead.
Senior Grant Waggoner is tied for 28th in the 91-player field. He had an up-and-down day consisting of four birdies, five bogeys and a double-bogey, resulting in a round of 3-over 74.
Sophomore Evan Grenus (+4) is tied for 43rd. The other two Terriers in the team competition are juniors Andrew Novak and Cam Andrade. Both are tied for 51st after Monday rounds of 5-over 76.
The second and final round of the tournament will get underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday. The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes but cut to 36 after heavy precipitation affected the course throughout the weekend.
Western Carolina 13th at Wolfpack Intercollegiate
RALEIGH, N.C. – Carding a career-low round of 2-under-par 69 on Monday, Western Carolina senior Tyler Lail sits in third place, just a stroke off the lead after the first of two rounds at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate. Western Carolina shot 301 as a team and is 13th entering Tuesday’s final round at the par-71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Paired with golfers from both Drexel and Seton Hall, WCU’s scoring five tees off on the back nine beginning at 8:45 a.m. through 9:21 a.m.
Catamount sophomore Jackson Bishop recovered from a 3-over start to the day to shoot even-par on the front nine and finish at 3-over 74 in a tie for 28th.
Freshman Mark David Johnson carded six bogeys with one birdie to sit in a tie for 51st overall with a 5-over-par 76. Sophomore Bright Julamool is tied for 87th after shooting 82 and senior Taylor Durand is 91st (86) to round out Western Carolina’s scoring five.
