Tar Heel Intercollegiate canceled
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina’s Tar Heel Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament that was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 3-4) has been canceled due to Hurricane Joaquin, which is scheduled to move up the Atlantic Ocean coastline this weekend.
The Tar Heels were to host 13 other schools (Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Liberty, Northwestern, Notre Dame, UNCG, UNCW and Virginia Commonwealth) in a 54-hole event at UNC Finley Golf Course. The teams were to play 36 holes on Saturday and another 18 on Sunday.
The storm is expected to bring heavy rains and possible hurricane-like conditions to the Triangle through the weekend.
The tournament will not be made up.
Furman returns to action Oct. 9-11 at ETSU’s Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, while UNCG is idle until the Auto Trader Collegiate on Oct. 12-13.
