Men's Golf 3/5/2014 10:40:00 AM Southern Conference UNCG?s Jenkins Named Men?s Golfer of the Week SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG freshman Carter Jenkins has been named the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for all competition from Feb. 26 to March 4. The selection is made by the league office.Jenkins tied for 11th in the 17-team, 90-golfer field at the USF Invitational, which concluded Tuesday. The field included seven ranked teams, with UNCG finishing in third place ahead of six top-60 teams.The Raleigh, N.C., native finished the tournament with a 7-under-par 209, shooting par or lower and improving in each round. Jenkins opened his tournament with an even-par 72 on Sunday and followed that up with a 2-under 70 on Monday to move up 17 spots on the leaderboard to 20th. Jenkins capped his run with a 5-under 67 on Tuesday, vaulting another nine spots to his final position. He averaged 69.7 strokes per round. Jenkins helped the Spartans post their best 54-hole team total in program history, a 26-under 838, supplanting the previous record by seven strokes. UNCG shot a program-record 275 in round one before lowering that record two more strokes on Tuesday.The Spartans will return to action March 9-11 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C.Also nominated: Richard Fountain (Davidson), Charlie Martin (Georgia Southern), Ewan Scott (Chattanooga), J.T.
