Bucs Tied for Sixth in Hawaii

ETSU tied for sixth at Warrior Princeville Invitational

KAUAI, Hawaii – The 28th-ranked ETSU men’s golf team put together a solid round on day two of the Warrior Princeville Invitational as the Bucs fired an 11-under-par 277 and moved into a tie for sixth place on Tuesday at the Makai Golf Club.

Following its lowest round of the season, ETSU sits at 15-under-par 561, and the Bucs find themselves in the middle of the pack of a 15-team field tied with Idaho.

Junior Adrian Meronk made a move on Tuesday as he tied his lowest collegiate round with a 6-under-par 66 and went from being tied for 20th into 11th place at 8-under-par 136. Meronk totaled seven birdies in the round, while his only hiccup came when he bogeyed the par-3, 255-yard 13th, but from there, the Buccaneer leader played the final 13 holes at 6-under.

The top of the leaderboard remained the same following 36 holes of competition as No. 11 Georgia Tech still has a grip of the team lead and Pepperdine’s Frederick Wedel increased his margin on the individual side.

The Yellow Jackets carded a 15-under 273 on Tuesday and moved to 31-under-par 545 for the championship. Georgia Tech enters Wednesday’s final round four shots ahead of No. 28 Arizona State – who leaped two spots up the board – following its 16-under-par 272 in round two. Meanwhile, Ole Miss and 42nd-ranked Louisville are tied for third at 24-under-par 552. The Cardinals totaled the lowest round on Tuesday by firing a 19-under 269.

A day after carding a 64, Wedel continued putting up the lowest score on the leaderboard as he shot a 9-under 63 in round two and is 17-under-par 127 for the tournament. Wedel begins the final round with a four-stroke lead over three golfers – including the nation’s top amateur in Georgia Tech’s Ollie Schniederjans.

ETSU senior Rhys Pugh also put together a strong showing on Tuesday as he registered a 4-under 68 and is tied for 19th at 4-under-par 140. Like Meronk, Pugh also tallied seven birdies on the day. Junior Chris Hickman is tied for 29th at 2-under-par 142 and sophomore Mateusz Gradecki is tied for 37th at 1-under-par 143.

The Bucs are paired with Idaho, San Diego and Cal Poly in Wednesday’s final round, which begins with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Eastern.
