Chattanooga 12th at Golfweek Conference Challenge
BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Chattanooga Mocs had a better score in round two of the Golfweek Conference Challenge improving by eight shots with a 297 Monday to sit 12th.
UTC was 3-over par through 17 holes Monday before giving back six strokes on the final hole, the par-4 ninth, with two doubles and a triple-bogey.
Senior Davis Bunn was the top Chattanooga performer on day two. He tallied four birdies and 12 pars turning in a 2-under-par 70. Freshman Brooks Thomas is low for the two days at 3-over-par 147. He turned in a 1-over 73 Monday.
Benni Weilguni and Chris Robb rounded out the counting scores with twin 77s. Ewan Scott had the drop score with a 78.
Oklahoma fired a 10-under-par 278 to take a 13-shot advantage over first-round leader Houston. The Sooners are at 568 (-8) with the Cougars in second at 581. New Mexico is third at 582 with Virginia Tech (583) another stroke back in fourth.
There is a four-way tie atop the individual lead at minus-3. Stewart Jolly (LSU), Tyler Merkel (Ball State), James Newton (Central Arkansas) and Beau Titsworth (OU) are one shot ahead of another quartet tied for fifth at 142.
It’s a shotgun start for the Mocs in Tuesday’s final round beginning at 9:30 a.m., Eastern time.
