College of Charleston finishes sixth at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – Led by a sixth-place finish from freshman Josh Lorenzetti, the College of Charleston men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Gary Koch Invitational on Tuesday at the Old Memorial Golf Club.
The Cougars shot rounds of 288-290-297=875 (+11) for the tournament. Florida State took the team title with a seven-shot margin over runner-up Georgia Tech.
The Cougars picked up a good win by beating North Florida, the No. 19 team in the country, by two strokes.
Lorenzetti carded rounds of 73-69-70=212 (-4) to earn his sixth-place finish, and sophomore Zach Munroe shot rounds of 70-70-73=213 (-3) for an eighth-place finish.
Up next, the Cougars will host the Southern Conference Championship at Daniel Island Club on April 21-23.
Georgia Southern finishes 10th at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – The Georgia Southern golf team posted a 303 in the final round of the Gary Koch Invitational at Old Memorial Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon to finish 10th in the 14-team tournament.
The Eagles (+31) were nine strokes ahead of 11th-place Ohio State and UNCG (+40) and six strokes back of South Florida (+25). Florida State (-23) won the tournament and Georgia Tech (-16) placed second.
Southern Conference opponent College of Charleston (+11) was sixth.
Scott Wolfes shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to finish 3-over for the tournament and tie for 23rd. Hayden Anderson (+6) and Will Evans tied for 33rd. Anderson recorded a 73 Tuesday, while Evans shot a 75 in his final round.
Charlie Martin finished with a 3-round total of 235, and Henry Mabbett posted a 237. Caleb Morris, who played as an individual, shot a 78 Tuesday to finish with a 237.
The Eagles return to action at the Southern Conference Championship on April 21-23 in Daniel Island, S.C.
UNCG ties for 11th at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – The UNCG men’s golf team closed out the 2012-13 regular season with an 11th-place finish at the Gary Koch Invitational hosted by Auburn and Kentucky on Tuesday at the Old Memorial Golf Course. The Spartans fired a final-round score of 305 to finish with a 54-hole total of 904, tied with Ohio State.
Senior Robert Hoadley was the Spartans’ top finisher, placing 29th overall with a 5-over par 221. Hoadley opened the tournament with a 3-over par 75 before posting back-to-back rounds of 1-over par 73. Rowin Caron of Florida State and Bo Andrews of Georgia Tech took home individual honors with a 9-under par 207 in the two-day event.
Freshman Taylor Coalson continued his strong rookie campaign as he finished tied for 38th overall with a 7-over par 223. Coalson also started with a tough first round, notching a 5-over par 77 before rebounding with consecutive rounds of 1-over par 73.
Sophomore Roy Dixon finished in a tie for 59th place after posting a 231. Sophomore Alex Ehlert placed 64th with a 235, while freshman Luke Haithcock rounded out the lineup in 71st with a 238.
Florida State won the event with a 54-hole total of 23-under par 841, while Georgia Tech was second with a 16-under par 848.
The Spartans will be off until the 2013 Southern Conference Championships held April 21-23 in Daniel Island, S.C., at the Ralston Creek Course at the Daniel Island Club.
