College of Charleston tied for fifth at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – Sophomore Zach Munroe shot two rounds of 70 and freshman Josh Lorenzetti fired a 3-under 69 in the second round to power the College of Charleston men’s golf team to a fifth-place finish after two rounds of the Gary Koch Invitational at Old Memorial in Tampa on Monday.
The Cougars shot an even-par round of 288 and a 2-over 290 and are within 10 shots of the top three teams. Florida State got off to a quick start and leads the tournament at 21-under par.
Munroe is 4-under for the tournament and is in a four-way tie for fifth place on the individual leaderboard.
With his second-round 69, Lorenzetti moved up the leaderboard into 13th at 2-under for the tournament.
Junior Alex Ellis got off to a strong start with a 2-under 70 and came back with a 75 in the second round for a 1-over score for the tournament and is in 25th place.
The Cougars will tee off in the third and final round at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday and will be paired with Florida and Wake Forest.
Georgia Southern 10th at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – Georgia Southern shaved six strokes off its first-round total to move up to 10th in the team standings after two rounds at the Gary Koch Invitational Monday at Old Memorial Golf Course.
The Eagles (+16) shot a 293 in the second round after firing a 299 in their first 18 holes. Georgia Southern will tee off on hole 10 at 8:05 a.m. in Tuesday’s final round.
Georgia Southern is one stroke ahead of South Florida (+17) and five strokes back of Jacksonville (+11). Florida State (-21) leads the tournament, and Georgia Tech (-20) is second. Auburn (-8) is third, followed by Florida (-3).
Scott Wolfes (75-72) and Will Evans (72-75) each shot a 147 to lead the Eagles on the par-72 course. Hayden Anderson (76-73) shot a 149, and Henry Mabbett (77-73) fired a 150. Charlie Martin (76-76) posted a 152, and Caleb Morris (78-81), who is playing as an individual, finished with a 159.
UNCG 12th at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – The UNCG men’s golf team fired a 599 score through 36 holes and sits in 12th place at the 2013 Gary Koch Invitational co-hosted by Auburn and Kentucky at the Old Memorial Golf Club.
The final round of the 54-hole event will tee off Tuesday with the Spartans set for start times between 8:05-8:45 a.m.
UNCG posted a 23-over par 599, opening with a first-round score of 296 before turning in a score of 303 in round two. Florida State leads the event with a 21-under par 555 (278-277), while Georgia Tech is second, just one shot off the lead at 20-under par 556 (279-277).
Senior Robert Hoadley is tied for 41st after two rounds with a 4-over par 148. Hoadley opened with a 3-over par 75 before turning in a 1-over par 73. Florida State’s Rowin Caron and Georgia Tech’s Shun Yat Hak are tied for the overall lead after posting 8-under par 136s.
Freshman Taylor Coalson finished day one in a tie for 51st place with a 6-over par 150. Coalson began the day with a 5-over par 77 in round one before rebounding with a 1-over par 73. Sophomore Roy Dixon is tied for 58th overall with an 8-over par 152 (74-78).
Freshman Luke Haithcock returned to the lineup and posted a 10-over par 154 (75-79) to sit in a tie for 68th. Sophomore Alex Ehlert rounded out the Spartans’ lineup with an 11-over par 155 as he opened with UNCG’s top round of the day with an even-par 72 but notched an 11-over par 83 in round two.
