Davidson?s Fountain Named Men?s Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson junior Richard Fountain has been named the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for all competition April 3-9. The selection is made by the league office.

Fountain shot a 1-under 212 at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Kannapolis, N.C., over the weekend, tying for fourth in the 90-player field. As a team, the Wildcats tied for fifth in the 17-team field, which included a pair of ranked squads and two ranked individuals. Davidson co-hosted the tournament with Charlotte.

The Raleigh, N.C., native matched his career low with a 5-under 66 in the second round to give him the lead entering the final day of competition for the second straight tournament. After an opening-round 1-under 70 on Saturday, Fountain shot a 76 on Sunday for his final position.

Davidson is idle until the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship at the Ralston Creek Course in Daniel Island, S.C., on April 21-23. Fountain was the 2011 individual champion of the event.

Also nominated: Casey Komline (Appalachian State), Josh Lorenzetti (College of Charleston), Scott Wolfes (Georgia Southern) and Robert Hoadley (UNCG).
