College of Charleston finishes 13th at The Hootie
AWENDAW, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s golf team shot the fourth-best final round in the 15-team field as they moved up and finished in 13th place at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The Cougars shot a round of even par as a team on the final day and had two individuals shoot under par for the final round. For the tournament, the Cougars finished at 47-over and were six shots back of ninth place.
Duke claimed the team title as it shot 4-under in the final round and finished the tournament at 10-over par.
Freshman Josh Lorenzetti shot a 2-under 70 final round and was the Cougars’ top individual finisher as he was 8-over par for the tournament and finished tied for 22nd place. Lorenzetti had four birdies and one eagle on his scorecard for the final round, with an eagle on the par-5 10th hole.
Senior John Duke Hudson also shot under par in the final round as he carded a 1-under 71 and finished 14-over and moved up 14 spots on the final day to finish tied for 47th place. Freshman Jackson Moore shot an even-par 70 in the final round and finished tied for 53rd at 16-over.
Up next the Cougars travel to Tampa, Fla., April 8-9 for the Gary Koch Invitational at the Old Memorial Golf Club.
UNCG ties for 11th at C&F Bank Intercollegiate
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – UNCG sophomore golfer Roy Dixon fired an even-par 70 in a weather-shortened tournament at the 33rd annual C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at the Kingsmill Resort and famed River Course.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament was limited to just one round of 18 holes due to snow in the Williamsburg area. Half of the 32-team field played its round Sunday before the snow, while the remaining 16 teams played Tuesday afternoon.
Dixon finished in a tie for 11th overall , three shots off the lead, as posted three birdies and three bogeys in his first round to finish at even par. He was 2-under par through 11 holes but notched two bogeys on the final three holes as the weather started to go downhill rapidly.
The Spartans as a team posted a 296 to finish in a tie for 11th overall with Richmond. Tennessee won the one-round event with a 285 score, finishing just two strokes in front of Florida State and Michigan.
Sophomore Alex Ehlert posted a 3-over par 73 Sunday and finished 25th overall in the individual standings. Ehlert posted three birdies on the afternoon but turned in six bogeys. Senior Robert Hoadley carded a 5-over par 75, good for 58th place, as he post two birdies on the last four holes of the day.
The River Course at the Kingsmill Resort hosted the PGA Michelob Open for several decades and has hosted the LPGA for the past decade.
UNCG is back in action at the Bancorp South Intercollegiate in Madison, Miss., on April 1-2.
Appalachian State ties for 26th at C&F Bank Intercollegiate
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Appalachian State’s men’s golf team wrapped up the only round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate on Tuesday, as the Mountaineers finished tied for 26th place in the 33-team field at Kingsmill Resort.
Appalachian State, who was washed away with rain for the first two rounds, fired a 307 (+19) to wrap up the tournament, tying with Binghamton. The 307 was 22 shots behind tournament champion Tennessee, which carded matching 69s for its top scores of the afternoon.
Pacing the Mountaineers was junior Casey Komline and freshman Lee Mitchell with matching 75s (+3), placing the duo in a tie for 58th place. Graduate student Daniel Walsh closely followed with a 76 (+4) and a 79th-place finish.
Rounding out the Appalachian scoring was seniors Josh Nichols and Drew Harris with a pair of 81s.
The Mountaineers return to action on Thursday when they pair with the women’s golf team for the University Cup at Mimosa Hills Country Club.
