GSU?s Wolfes named men?s golfer of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern sophomore Scott Wolfes has been named the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for all competition March 13-19. The selection is made by the league office.

Wolfes tied for fifth at the Eagles’ own Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., over the weekend, helping the squad to a sixth-place finish in the 15-team field, which included 14 of the top 100 teams in the nation and seven of the top 50.

The sophomore from St. Simons Island, Ga., shot a 4-under 212 over three rounds, highlighted by 70s in the first and third rounds. He beat 16 players ranked in the top 100 in posting his seventh top-10 and sixth top-five finish of the season.

His top-five finish was the first for an Eagle golfer at the Schenkel since 2008.

The award is Wolfes' second of the season.

Georgia Southern returns to action at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate April 8-9 at Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla.

Also nominated: Casey Komline (Appalachian State) and Alex Ellis (College of Charleston).
