Appalachian State's Walsh Named Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State graduate student Daniel Walsh has been named the Southern Conference men’s golfer of the week for all competition March 6-12. The selection is made by the league office.

Walsh finished in a season-best tie for fourth in the 66-golfer field at the Bash at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C., from Sunday to Tuesday. He fired a three-round total of 3-under 210, good for a 70.0 stroke average, well below his season average of 75.91. The Wilkesboro, N.C., native shot a final-round 3-under 68 after sitting at even-par through the first two rounds.

As a team, the Mountaineers finished seventh of the 11 teams at the tournament.

Appalachian State is back in action at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., this weekend.

Also nominated: John Somers (Elon), Taylor Coalson (UNCG) and Benni Weilguni (Chattanooga).
