HUMBLE, Texas – The
Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team matched its opening 18 score with a 2-over par
290 Saturday on the tournament course at Redstone Golf Club. UTC is tied for
sixth at plus-4 with South Carolina.
Liam Johnston once again led the way for his squad with a
1-under par 71. He is tied for fifth overall at minus-4, 140, which matches his
career-best 36-hole total as a Moc. The sophomore was 1-over for the round
after a bogey on 14 but birdied 15 and 17 for his 71.
Davis Bunn missed matching Johnston by a single stroke. His
72 ties him for 27th at plus-1 with teammate Steven Fox, who carded a 73. The
duo sits at 145.
Chris Robb rounded out the team scoring with a 74, while
Benni Weilguni had the drop score with an 80. Robb’s total through 36 is 151,
with Weilguni checking in at 156.
No. 3 Texas shot 14-under par 274 Saturday to take a
commanding 13-stroke advantage at 559 (-17). Baylor is in second at 572 (-4),
while Charlotte is in third at 2-under 574. Longhorns individual entry Brax
McCarthy leads at 8-under 136 after a 69 Saturday. Julio Vegas, also from
Texas, is in second at 138 (-6).
Sunday’s final round begins at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time with a
shotgun start. Chattanooga is paired with East Carolina and Lamar.
Wofford finishes fifth
at Forest Hills Collegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. –
The Wofford men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the 36-hole Forest Hills
Collegiate at the par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club on Saturday.
The Terriers shot a 303-292=595 to finish in fifth
place. Host Augusta State took the top
spot on the 10-team leaderboard with a 292-278=570.
Chandler Brazeal paced Wofford with two rounds of 73 for a
146 overall and a tie for 10th place.
Cory Taylor carded a 78-871=149, while Charles Moore ended with two
rounds of 75 for a 150 36-hole total.
Brannan Hudson shot a 154 after two rounds of 77, while Stuart McGoogan
shot an 83-73=156.
Brent McKenzie competed as an individual in the tournament
and finished in third place with after entering the clubhouse with a 72-70=142.
USC Upstate’s Brad Sill was the individual medalist after
shooting a 66-70=136.
Wofford tees off again at the Davidson College Invitational
on March 4-5 for its next tournament.
