Georgia Southern in
third at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD, S.C. –
Hayden Anderson is tied for fifth and the Georgia Southern golf team is in
third after the first round of the 18-team Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate
Tournament on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles were slated to play 36 holes Monday, but frost
delayed the start of round one by an hour. Each squad has approximately five
holes left in round two. Georgia Southern trails second-place Richmond by four
strokes and leader and tournament host Francis Marion by five.
Anderson carded a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Eagles, while
Scott Wolfes shot a 73 and is tied for 12th. Charlie Martin is tied for 24th
after firing a 75. Will Evans shot a 77, and Blake Olson rounded out the group
with an 80.
The tournament is slated to continue Tuesday with the
conclusion of the second round followed by the third and final round.
Davidson tied for
sixth at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD, S.C. –
Behind senior John Skeadas’ opening round 1-over 73, the Davidson men’s golf
team sits in a tie for sixth place following day one of the Wexford Plantation
Collegiate hosted by Francis Marion.
Frost delayed the start of round one by an hour, so the
18-team field was unable to complete Monday’s scheduled second round.
The second round will be completed Tuesday morning followed
by the final 18 holes on the 6,828-yard, par-72 Wexford Plantation layout
designed by Arnold Palmer.
Skeadas is currently tied for 12th, just two
strokes clear of teammates Richard Fountain and Sam Echikson, who are tied for
24th.
As a team, Davidson recorded a 299 and is just eight swings
off the lead, which is held by the tournament host.
Also competing for the Wildcats are Ralph Blasey and David
Sargent, who carded scores of 76 and 77, respectively.
South Florida’s Ted Valentine fired just one of five sub-par
rounds Monday and holds the individual lead following a 3-under 69.
In addition to the Wildcats and the host Patriots, this
year's field includes Campbell, Connecticut, Dayton, DePaul, Elon, Georgia
Southern, Ohio, Presbyterian College, Radford, Richmond, Samford, USC Aiken,
South Florida, Western Carolina, William & Mary, and defending team
champion Georgia State.
Elon in 12th
after one completed round at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

Junior Jack Adkins fired an even-par 72 over his first round of the spring to
lead the Elon Phoenix on day one of the two-day, 54-hole Wexford Plantation
Intercollegiate on Monday.
Frost delayed the start of round one by an hour, so the
18-team field was unable to complete Monday's scheduled second round. Each squad has five holes left to complete
play in round two.
The second round will be completed on Tuesday morning and
will be followed by the final 18 holes.
The Phoenix tallied a 309 during its first round of play,
concluding its first 18 holes in 12th place.
Adkins' 72 has him in a tie for seventh among the 90
participants in the field.
John Somers carded a 77 in his first round of the spring to
sit in a tie for 39th. He was followed
by Troy Beaver's 79, good enough to sit in a tie for 61st.
In a tie for 74th is Stuart Kaufman, who posted an 81 on
Monday. Rounding out Elon's contingent
was Dylan Morgan. Morgan entered the second
round in a tie for 80th with a mark of 82.
Host Francis Marion led the field at the end of round one
with a 291. The Patriots edged out
Richmond (292) by one stroke. The rest
of the top five includes Georgia Southern (296), South Florida (297) and
Georgia State (298).
South Florida's Trey Valentine posted a 3-under 69 in round
one to hold the individual lead.
Western Carolina tied
for 16th at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD, S.C. –
Western Carolina sophomore J.T. Poston carded a 2-under par 70 during Monday's
opening round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate to lead the Catamounts
(313), which sit tied for 16th overall at the par-72, 6,828-yard Wexford
Plantation course.
Poston concluded the first 18 holes amidst a three-way tie
for the runner-up spot in the 90-golfer field.
Frost delayed the start of the opening round by an hour on
Monday morning, therefore putting the golfers behind all day. Each squad has
approximately five holes left to finish in round two, which they will complete Tuesday
morning and before playing the final 18 holes.
Host Francis Marion led the 18-team field by a stroke over runner-up
Richmond after shooting a 3-over 291 in the opening round, one stroke ahead of
the Spiders at 292. Georgia Southern was third at 296, followed by South
Florida (297) and Georgia State (298).
Trey Valentine of South Florida led after 18 holes, shooting
a 3-under 69 in Monday's first round to lead the three-way tie for second.
Poston is among a threesome tied for second place in the
individual standings, one stroke behind Valentine. Kenneth Svanum of Francis
Marion and David Walker of Richmond also shot 70 on Monday and are tied with
Poston.
Behind Poston, Catamount senior Steven Smith shot an
opening-round 6-over 78 to stand tied for 56th, just ahead of junior Jack Walsh
in a tie for 61st, one stroke in arrears at 79. Freshman Tyler Lail (86) and
redshirt senior Kyle Wilson (88) rounded out WCU's scoring side in 88th and
89th, respectively.
Teams will complete the second round and play the final 18
on Tuesday.
