Elon leads Old Dominion/OBX Collegiate

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – With four players shooting a 73 or better on day one, the Elon men's golf team soared to the top of the leaderboard after the first round of play at the Old Dominion / OBX Collegiate on Sunday afternoon.

The Phoenix carded a team score of 286 and leads Radford by three strokes with two rounds to play.  Four strokes back is a trio of teams tied for third in the 18-team event - host Old Dominion, Marshall and Hartford.

Elon's day-one performance was paced by John Somers, who tallied a 1-under 70, including a 33 on the back nine. Somers was one of three golfers to record five birdies during Sunday's play. His round has him in a seven-way tie for second, just one shot off the lead of 69 held by Marshall's Logan Lagodich.

One stroke back in a tie for ninth is Jack Adkins. Adkins carded a 36 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine on his way to a 71 on day one.

A third Phoenix golfer found himself in the top 15 at the end of the day. Jeff Krieger notched a round of 72 thanks to four birdies to tie for 14th after 18 holes of action.

Will DiIanni, who also had four birdies, posted a 73 to tie for 22nd out of the 93 participants, while Stuart Kaufman shot a 77 and will begin round two tied for 52nd.
