College of Charleston
sits fifth at Mason Rudolph Championship
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Led
by sophomore Zach Munroe's 1-under 70, the College of Charleston men's golf
team is in fifth place heading into the final round of the Mason Rudolph
Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
On a day in which the golf course was set up to be more
challenging than on day one, the Cougars shot a 9-over 293 and are currently
10-over for the tournament, three shots out of the top three places.
Playing on its home course, Vanderbilt shot 6-under to take
the tournament lead at 4-under and Oklahoma is second at 3-under after a 1-over
285 second round. Georgia State is third at 7-over.
Munroe continued his solid play as he made three birdies,
including one on the 18th hole to finish his round of 70. Munroe is in third place
individually at 4-under for the tournament, three shots back of the leader
Abraham Ancer from Oklahoma.
Junior Alex Ellis made four birdies, including two in the
last four holes, to shoot a 2-over 73 for the Cougars. Senior Neil Gowan also
made a birdie on the 18th hole.
The Cougars will tee off from hole one Sunday starting at
9:15 Eastern and will be paired with Mississippi State and South Alabama.
Georgia Southern in
eighth Mason Rudolph Championship
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Georgia
Southern golfer Charlie Martin is tied for fifth place at 2-under par after
shooting a 72 on the second day of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the
Legends Course on Saturday.
The Eagles (+14) are in eighth place, two strokes behind Ole
Miss and four back of fifth-place College of Charleston. Host Vanderbilt leads
the tournament at 4-under par, and Oklahoma is second at 3-under.
Martin recorded two birdies and three bogeys on the front
nine for a 36 and was even on the back nine to finish 1-over for the day. Scott
Wolfes, who is tied for 16th, was hurt by a double bogey on hole eight and
played the back nine at even par to finish the day 3-over.
Christian Humber, who is playing as an individual, teed off
on hole 10 and played the back nine at 2-under. After playing the first three
holes at 1-under, the junior struggled down the stretch, bogeying three of the
last five holes to finish the day at even par. He is tied for 20th.
Hayden Anderson, who finished 1-over for the day, made par
on every hole except the par-4 fourth. Caleb Morris finished with a 75, and
Henry Mabbett shot a 77.
Action at the Mason Rudolph Championship finishes Sunday as
the Eagles tee off at 7:30 a.m.
Davidson tied for
ninth at Mason Rudolph Championship
FRANKLIN, Tenn. –
John Skeadas shot a one-under 70 and teammate Richard Fountain carded an
even-par 71 as the Davidson men’s golf team sits tied for ninth after 36 holes
of the 2012 Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt.
The 54-hole event is being played on the Par 71, 7,100-yard
Legends Club South Course layout.
Skeadas’ second round consisted of two birdies and a bogey,
while Fountain, the 2011 SoCon Champion, posted three birdies and three bogeys.
Skeadas (75-70=145) will enter the final round tied for 20th, a
stroke ahead of his teammate.
Todd Eckstein turned in another solid round shooting a
two-over 73, which puts him in a tie for 36th (+5).
After opening with a one-under 70, Sam Echikson struggled on
the back nine to finish with an 80 and fall into a tie for 51st.
Also competing for the Wildcats is freshman David Sargent,
who shot an eight-over 79 Saturday and is two back of Echikson.
Davidson (292-293=585) will enter the final round just seven
strokes out of fifth and 10 outside the top three.
Oklahoma’s Abraham Ancer is the individual leader at 135
(-7), while the host Commodores moved a shot ahead of the Sooners on the team
leaderboard with a six-under 278 Saturday.
The third and final round will begin Sunday at 8 a.m.
