UNCG finishes 13^th at Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team concluded play in its first tournament of the season Sunday posting a team score of 301 in the third round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Course. The Spartans finished the 54-hole tournament with a team score of 899, to finish in 13th place overall.

Duke won the tournament with a team score of 856, finishing 8-under par to win the event by six strokes over host North Carolina. NC State's Albin Choi won the individual title, firing an 11-under par for the weekend and winning the event by six strokes over North Carolina's Patrick Barrett.

Senior Robert Hoadley was the Spartans' top finisher, sitting in a tie for 34th place after shooting a 4-over 76 Sunday. Hoadley finished with a three-round score of 223 (75-72-76). Freshman Luke Haithcock ended his first collegiate event tied for 40th with a 54-hole total of 224 (73-72-79).

Freshman Taylor Coalson ended his inaugural event tied for 45th overall with a score of 225 (75-76-74) as he posted the best score of the day for the Spartans on Sunday with his 2-over par 74. Sophomore Roy Dixon posted a 232 (78-75-79), while senior Matt Younts ended with a score of 239 (78-87-74).

The Spartans will return to action Sept. 24-25 as they travel to Richmond, Va., for the VCU Shootout at the Hermitage Country Club.

Furman 14^th at Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Seniors Matt Brown and Anthony Aloi each carded three-over 75s on Sunday to lead the Furman’s men’s golf team in the final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at the par-72 Finley Golf Course.

Brown, a Brookeville, Md., product, notched two birdies in his final round to finish the tournament at nine-over par and claim a share of 45th place. Aloi, who redshirted last season, recorded one birdie and played his final nine holes at one-over to share 62nd place.

The Paladins struggled to a final round 305 and finished last in the 14-team field. Duke (-8) compiled a one-over 289 on Sunday to claim a six-stroke victory over tournament host North Carolina (-2).  Charlotte (+9), NC State (+10) and East Tennessee State (+13) rounded out the top five finishers.

Albin Choi of NC State shot a four-under 68 on Sunday to claim individual medalist honors at 11-under par.

Furman is back in action Sept. 24-25, at the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Louisville, Ky.
