Mocs Men's Golf Is Headed to Bowling Green
Chattanooga is the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Bowling Green Regional

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team travels to Bowling Green, Ky., for NCAA Regional play the organization announced tonight. UTC earned the Southern Conference automatic bid with a 19-stroke runaway win at last month's league championship.

There are 14 teams and five individuals converging on the Club at Olde Stone. The Mocs are the sixth seed behind UCLA, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Clemson and North Texas.

This is the sixth straight NCAA Regionals appearance for the Mocs. The team advanced to the NCAA Championship from Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla., in 2009.

"We are really excited to get going," head coach Mark Guhne said. "This is the best time of year. We've been there before and know what to expect. We look forward to the challenge."

UTC is led by three-time SoCon Golfer of the Year Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany). He is the only three-time winner of the award and is currently ranked in the top 15 in the country. Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland), Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Benni Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) round out the squad.

The top five teams and one individual on non-advancing squads from the region move on to the NCAA Championship. The finals are May 29-June 3 at famed Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

SAMFORD MEN'S GOLF: BULLDOGS' O'TOOLE QUALIFIES FOR 2012 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
--- Samford's junior will compete in the Greensboro Regional to be held May 17-19 ---

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Samford men's golfer Casey O'Toole made school history Monday as he became the first Bulldog to qualify for the NCAA Championship as an individual competitor. During the 2012 NCAA Selection Show, Samford's junior native of Oneonta was highlighted as a member of the prestigious field to compete at the Greensboro Regional, which will be held May 17-19.

"I am extremely proud of Casey and happy for him to get this opportunity," said Samford head coach Woodie Eubanks. "He has put in a lot of hard work this season and I can't wait to see him square off against some of the best golfers in the nation. This is a big step for our program. Hopefully, this will be the first of many trips to the NCAA Championship."

The Greensboro Regional is one of six initial sites of the 2012 NCAA Championship and will be held at the East Course of the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. Following next weekend's competition, the finalists from each site will be sent to The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., for the championship round to be held May 29-31.

O'Toole will head to the NCAA Championship with a full head of steam after recently earning a fourth-place finish in the individual standings at the 2012 Southern Conference Championship. Samford's junior native of Oneonta, Ala., fired a 1-over-73 in all three rounds of the tournament. O'Toole finished with a 3-over-par 219 (73-73-73) and earned All-SoCon accolades for his performance.

Throughout the 2011-12 campaign, O'Toole has consistently proven to be one of the top golfers in the Southeast and finished the season with a team-best 72.28 stroke average. His mark also proved to be the second best in the SoCon, only trailing Chattanooga's Stephan Jaegar by a miniscule average of .98 strokes per outing.

O'Toole has already garnered a number of individual accolades this season, including being named the SoCon Golfer of the Week twice.

O'Toole will begin his quest for an NCAA title May 17 as he begins competition in the three-day regional championship to be held at the East Course of the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
