Wofford Wraps Up 36-holes of the Coca-Cola Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford's Brent McKenzie is in eighth place after two rounds of the Coca-Cola Invitational at the par-72, 6,6648 yard Country Club of Spartanburg Monday.
McKenzie opened play with a career 18-hole low 69 and followed it up with an even par round of 72 to earn a 141 on the day.
McKenzie leads the first of two Wofford teams in the events as group one has a score of 286-292-578 for sixth place, while group two, is in 15th with a score of 300-293-593.
Charleston Southern leads after two rounds with a 282-280-562. The Bucs have tied a tournament 36-hole low with the 562.
Along with McKenzie on the first Wofford team, Chandler Brazeal is in a tie for ninth after rounds of 70 and 72 for a 142. Cory Taylor follows with a 74-73-147, while Mark Joye and Branna Hudson posted 36-hole scores of 74-75-149 and 73-76-149 respectively.
Brent Whitehead leads the second group with a 149 after rounds of 79 and 69. Hayes Brown carded a 76-74-150, while Chuck Moore shot a 72-79-151. Zach Capps and Alan King both shot a 151, with scores of 74 and 77 for Capps and 78 and 73 for King.
Vaita Guillaume leads the tournament with a 133 after rounds of 69 and 64. His second round score of 64 ties an 18-hole tournament record low and a second round tournament record low. Bobby Cochran of Florida State shot a 64 in round two of the tournament back in 1994. His 133 is also a 36-hole record for an individual.
The tournament will conclude with the final 18-holes Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Davidson Golf 12th After First Two Rounds of Coca-Cola Invitational
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Davidson men's golf team is tied for 12th place with Radford after posting a two-round score of 591 (296+295) Monday in the Coca-Cola Invitational hosted by Wofford at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Freshman Ralph Blasey leads the Wildcats individually, tied for 29th place at 146 (72+74), two-over-par. Junior John Skeadas shot a second-round one-under 71 to move into a tie for 38th place at 148, four-over-par.
Sophomore Richard Fountain matched Blasey's first-round 72, but faltered with a six-over 78 in the second round to finish the day at 150. Senior Jackson Taylor fired a pair of 75's to tie Fountain. Freshman Todd Eckstein's second-round 75 counted towards the ‘Cats team score and he finished the day at 152.
Charleston Southern leads the 18-team field on the par-72, 6,648-yard course by nine strokes with a score of 562, 14-under-par. Campbell's Vaita Guillaume leads the tournament individually by one stroke with an 11-under-par 133 after rounds of 69 and 64.
Davidson trails Southern Conference foes Wofford (sixth place, 578), Samford (ninth, 584) and Appalachian State (11th, 589), but leads Elon (17th, 596).
The tournament will conclude with the third and final round Tuesday.
