UNCG third after two rounds at C&F Bank Intercollegiate
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - UNCG men's golf team is in third place after two rounds at C&F Bank Intercollegiate. Spartan Alex Ehlert is sitting tied for ninth place overall with a total score of 144 (69-75).
UNCG has turned in a two-day total of 583 after Monday's 299 and is seven shots out of first place. The Spartans were second after Sunday's first round with a 284.
Kyle Sonday moved up two spots to 11th Monday after shooting a 74. He has a two-day total of 145 through 36 holes (71-74).
Will Almand also charged up the leader board with a stellar round Monday. His 1-over par 72 for the day moved him past 30 competitors into a tie for 16th with a 146 (74-72).
Robert Hoadley is tied for 28th with a total of 148 (70-78) and Roy Dixon is tied for 87th at 154 (75-79).
"It's great to have five guys that all believe in each other," said UNCG coach Terrance Stewart. "We had a tough finish today, but they will bounce back tomorrow with a good chance to win."
Missouri continues to lead the tournament after two days. The Tigers hold a five-stroke lead over second-place Old Dominion.
Emilio Cuartero and Jace Long, both of Missouri, sit tied atop the individual standings with Sebastian Backlund of Francis Marion. Each has a cumulative score of 140.
The third and final round at the famed Kingsmill Resort-River Course will begin Tuesday morning.

Men's Golf Slips into Tie for 16th at C&F Bank Intercollegiate
J.T. Poston leads the Catamounts in a tie for 16th place
Williamsburg, Va. - Western Carolina carded a team round of 601 on Monday to slip into a two-way tie for 16th-place with Delaware at the par-71 River Course at the Kingsmill Resort. Freshman J.T. Poston continues to lead WCU, dropping into a tie for 16th place overall after shooting a six-over, 77.
Paired with golfers from Fairfield and IPFW, WCU's scoring five will tee off on the back nine beginning at 9:10 am on Tuesday morning.
First-round leader Missouri stretched its lead in the second round to five-strokes as the Tigers lead second-place Old Dominion, 576-to-581. UNCG slipped to third place, seven strokes off the pace at 583 with Radford (586) and High Point (587) rounding out the top five teams.
Sebastian Backlund of Francis Marion rallied from a tie for ninth place to join first-round leaders Emilio Cuartero and Jace Long of Missouri atop the individual leader board. The trio all carded 140 through the first two rounds of the 54-hole event.
With two birdies in his first six holes, Poston started the second round stroke at two-under par until a bogey on the par-5 seventh and a double-bogey on the par-4 eighth relegated him to one-over where he made the turn. On the back nine, the Hickory, N.C., native struggled with four-over par through the first three holes, finishing five-over on the back nine and six-over for the round, 146 through 36 holes.
Junior Steven Smith carded the best round for the Catamounts on Monday, shooting a four-over, 75, to stand tied with sophomore teammate Greg Bunner at nine-over par, 151. Jack Walsh shot six-over 77 to move into a tie for 93rd overall with a two-day total of 155. Freshman Matthew Turner rounded out the Catamount side with a two-round score of 160, tied for 120th overall.
Men's Golf 13th After Second Round of Hootie
AWENDAW, S.C. - Junior John Duke Hudson and sophomore Alex Ellis each shot 2-over to lead the College of Charleston men's golf team on day two of the Hootie t Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
The Cougars shot 12-over and are two stokes in front of Wake Forest and four strokes in front of Wisconsin.
Freshman Shane Rogan shot 3-over and is tied for 36th for the tournament.
The Cougars will tee off from hole 10 starting at 8:50 a.m. tomorrow.
Brazeal Shoots Team Low in Round Two of The Hootie at Bulls Bay
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Chandler Brazeal shot a team-low 69 in round two of The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,363 yard Bulls Bay Golf Club Monday.
After shooting a 78 in the opening around Sunday, Brazeal answered with his 69 Monday to take 147 into the final round.
Brent Whitehead leads the Terriers with a 71-75-146, while Mark Joye scored a 74-76-150. Cory Taylor notched a 75-78-153, and Brannan Hudson shot a 74-80-154.
Texas A&M's Cameron Pack leads the field with a 70-67-137.
As a team the Terriers are tied for eleventh after a 294-298-592 opening two rounds.
The Terriers will compete in the third and final round Tuesday morning.
MGolf Update: Apps Slide On Day Two In Virginia
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After a stellar opening round to place third on Sunday, Appalachian State University men's golf slid back a bit on Monday at the C&F Bank Invitational. The Mountaineers carded a 285-306=591 (+23) to tie in ninth place with Eastern Kentucky as the teams battled high winds and an excess of pollen on the course.
Casey Komline kept his place in the event's top five with a 69-74=143 (+1) to lead the Apps in fifth with the help of seven birdies.
Josh Nichols carded a 69-75=144 (+2) with eight birdies to tie in ninth, just ahead of Dustin Hudson's 75-77=152 (+10) in 68th place.
Newcomer Jason Woodall tied Hudson with a 72-80=152 (+10) while John Michael Cole stands 102nd with a 75-81=156 (+14).
Missouri improved on its lead to own a five-stroke advantage over Old Dominion with a 576 (+8). Mizzou's Emilio Cuartero and Jace Long are tied with Francis Marion's Sebastian Blacklund for the individual lead at 140 (-2).
Also competing in the 29-team event from the Southern Conference, UNCG ranks third with a 583 (+15) and Western Carolina stands 16th with a 601 (+33) heading into the final round.
The 54-hole event concludes on Tuesday at Kingsmill's River Course.
